ITV – Independent Television Limited is an Associate Company of IPP Limited. Its operations started in June 1994, initially broadcasting to five regions in the country and eventually reaching the entire country and the whole of Africa and beyond via satellite.
Over the years ITV- Independent Television Limited has distinguished itself as the leading electronic media service provider in Tanzania in both reach and viewership. ITV Independent Television Limited has continuously kept abreast with technological changes in the electronic media industry and now boasts of state of art digital equipment which includes outside broadcast facilities, automated transmission play out, sophisticated non linear editing suites and some of the most modern television studio facilities in the region including a virtual studio setting.
Since its inception ITV – Independent Television Limited has ensured loyalty from its viewers by broadcasting quality programming that is informative, educative and entertaining. Over sixty percent of ITV’s prime time programming is locally produced and in Kiswahili, the national language of Tanzania. The profile of its viewers cuts across age, gender, and economic status.
ITV broadcasts for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Its prime time runs from 18:00 hrs – 23:30 hrs and is crowned by a one-hour news bulletin at 20:00 hrs on a daily basis. This main news bulletin which enjoys a vieweship of over 80%, contain a special segment dedicated to news from the East Africa region. Other news bulletins are transmitted at 05:00hrs, 06:00hrs 07:00hrs, 18:00 and at 22:30 hrs daily.
To ensure that our viewers are kept abreast with what is happening in the rest of the world ITV links up with the leading international news networks namely CNN, BBC, and Aljazeera on a daily basis. ITV enjoys a unique synergy from other media service providers within IPP media family currently including, 3 radio channels, 2 television channels and over 10 newspaper publications. ITV is proud to be the trendsetter in the electronic media industry in Tanzania, a position it strives to guard and establish itself as a major player not only in Africa but also to stamp its mark on the world’s media map.
Although ITV – Independent Television Limited is a commercial station, it takes seriously the issue of Corporate Social Responsibility. ITV has over the years been involved in numerous undertakings for the benefit of the general public. Notable ones include its involvement in sports campaigns, raising funds for under-17 national football team (Serengeti Boys), Women’s football national team ( Twiga Stars).
ITV has also taken an active role in sensitization and mobilization of support for health campaigns, notable ones include breast cancer awareness in partnership with the Medical Women Association of Tanzania (MEWATA), creating awareness on fistula, a medical condition affecting women in conjunction with Women’s Dignity (NGO championing women’s rights) and an AIDS awareness campaign targeting the youth titled `IT BEGINS WITH YOU’.
It is an undisputable fact that if you are not on ITV you have neither been seen nor heard.
