SHOPRITE

About our company

Since 1979, Shoprite has grown rapidly within the South African market. Shoprite remains the biggest brand of the Shoprite Group of Companies and has become one of South Africa’s most trusted brands, being voted SA’s No.1 Supermarket in the annual Sunday Times Top Brands Survey every year since 2006.

Shoprite has a very simple philosophy: bringing customers lower prices they can trust on their basic food and household requirements in a convenient shopping environment.

Adding to the convenience of shopping with Shoprite, we offer the following value added services:

  • Money Markets, where consumers can make various third party payments
  • MediRite pharmacies, with qualified pharmacists
  • LiquorShops, located in close proximity to selected stores.

We are continuously growing our shopper base, with more than half of all South African adults shopping with Shoprite.

Usave

Usave is a no-frills supermarket with a very simple business philosophy: we save money wherever we can which we can pass on in lower prices to our customers. We offer customers the best prices on a selected range of top selling household brands and also stock a range of our own affordable labels in selected product categories.

So how do we save money? Firstly, Usave benefits from the massive buying power of the Shoprite Group, the biggest retail chain on the African continent. We keep our own costs as low as possible, because we don’t have fancy lighting and fittings in our stores, or expensive shelves. Usave also stocks less products than traditional supermarkets, which means we occupy less space and can control our day-today running costs, such as electricity. And we don’t run competitions where you can win, because we’d rather put the money back into the price of basic foods.

Because we keep our stores very simple, it’s easy to open more stores, more quickly. We aim to open a Usave store per week, because we understand how expensive transport costs have become. The more stores we can open in communities without supermarkets, the less people have to spend on transport to get to the stores.
